This is a tutorial on How to UNLOCK iPhone 3g USING CYDIA READ: BASICS * The unlock about to be released works exclusively with baseband 02.28.00. This baseband is provided by the latest firmware update (2.2) from Apple. Youll need to upgrade to this release using iTunes and then use QuickPwn to activate etc. There are plenty of tutorials about this on iclarified, bigboss, and other established tutorial sites. Because it works on 02.28.00, it is available to everyone on the planet. This means we dont need to unnecessarily expose holes in earlier basebands, which is an important concern. * The application is a small daemon that is launched on boot. It injects the payload at boot and also whenever there is a baseband reset. You wont notice anything about it other than that your third-party sim now works. Its a small program and unobtrusive. There is no GUI (this is by design). * You can add the application using the sources outlined below (coming soon). There are Cydia and Installer sources available, so use whichever you are comfortable using. * yellowsn0w is completely removable through Cydia, the command line, and iTunes. DETAILS * There is a known issue with SIM cards that have STK (SIM Toolkit) application menus. These menus are usually items such as top up get credit lotto numbers etc. These menu items confuse the application sometimes. If I figured out how to jailbreak & unlock my iPhone 3GS then anyone can. I'd been doing research and it seemed a few others had been able to do it so I decided to open up my 3GS and give it a go! [[the following directions jailbreak the phone using purplera1n]] 1. Get on a Windows PC (XP seems to have fewer issues than Vista) 2. Make sure iTunes is updated. Tun off auto updates. 3. Go to www.purplera1n.com 4. Download and run purplera1n (should say "waiting for phone") 5. Connect iPhone 3GS to computer. 6. Be patient - puplera1n takes a couple of minutes (should say "entering recovery" then "done, wait for reboot") 7. Phone reboots - you see image of purplera1n 8. Make sure your wi-fi is connected 9. Run Freeze application to install Cydia 10. Download Cydia 11. Reboot [[the following directions unlock the phone using ultrasn0w]] 12. Disable 3G network in (Settings, General, Network) so T-Mobile can run smoothly 13. Go to Cydia: Manage, Sources, Edit and type in repo666.ultrasn0w.com (the o is a zero in sn0w) 14. Go to Cydia: Changes, and install ultrasn0w 15. Reboot 16. Use paperclip to remove sim card, replace with your own 17. Voila! You are now on the network of your choice! In this video, I demonstrate how to utilize the PwnageTool (2.0.1) to jailbreak and unlock an iPhone with 2.0 software. I'm not using an iPhone 3G, but an old model which uses EDGE only. Remember the difference between jailbreaking and unlocking. Jailbreaking an iPhone will allow custom software (outside of the App Store) to run while unlocking an iPhone allows one to use the iPhone on a different carrier such as T-Mobile. The Pwnage tool gives you an easy to use interface to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone. It provides giant buttons that are easy to read and follow. Note, you should have already downloaded the latest Apple firmware as well as the latest BootLoader files. The tool will prompt you to download them if you haven't already. I also demonstrate "advanced mode" which gives you options to customize the firmware even further. You can tell it to activate the iPhone or not, disable the partition wipe, customize the root partition size, (pre)install custom packages, customize boot logos, or whether to preload Bootneuter for unlocking. After customization, you click the giant "Build" button which builds a custom firmware with all the customizations defined. You then have to restore this custom firmware to your iPhone through iTunes. This invovles putting the iPhone in DFU mode. The tool does a decent job of guiding through the process of holding the right buttons at the right time. Once this is done, the hard part is over! Just wait until the phone boots, runs the ...
